I think we live right by each other cuz we've got the same neighbors! Argh! Doesn't it just make you mad? People go from our place with flowers and and greenery and cut grass, to a hell hole next door. Very frustrating.

Ribbit - they sure keep things interesting in the neighborhood. Anytime we meet someone new in the neighborhood, they almost always know where we live because we point out we're the house next to the one that A) leaves their camper in the street for days on end, B) is missing half it's siding or C) parks his pick-up truck in his front yard repeatedly. Everyone knows where we're talking about! Again, they are nice people, and thankfully they don't have a recliner in the backyard! Though when his late elementary school aged daughter complained that she wanted a green bike, he spray painted her bike green - top to bottom, front to back, including the seat, handlebars, tires, etc.

Boy or boy can I relate to your neighbor story. We had neighbors who let a man live in a trailer in the back yard who bathed, drank and brushed his teeth out of their blow-up pool. They kept a recliner on the porch to view the glory that was their back yard, until they burned it while their water had been shut off. Things like that. Like yours, in a nice neighborhood. I feel for you.

Those were the only 2 paste tomatoes I could find already started around here. I have two small children, and did not get around to ordering and starting seed ahead myself this year - next year, I swear I will!

I'm sure there will be pictures of the marinara, as Kate absolutely loves to "squish tomatoes" (we have my mom's old Squeezo strainer that separates the juice and paste from the seeds, skin and fiber). Last year she started begging to squish other things like peppers and beans and carrots and was quite bummed when I explained those wouldn't really work.

That's interesting that you're growing amish paste and san marzano. When I was contemplating which paste tomatoes to grow, I almost went with those same two. Of course Opalka won in the end, because the shear size of it is quite appealing. Can't wait to see you make homemade marinara!

Thanks everyone - life is pretty busy most days, but I try not to be too crazy. I'm someone who needs their sleep - if I don't get 8 hrs regularly life is really rough. I wish I could function well on 6 like some people can, I'd have 2 more hours in every day after the girls are in bed to get stuff done!

Jan - the rainbarrel was pretty cheap to put together and didn't take too many tools. I have 2 more further down that side of the house that are joined together. All 3 barrels were $10 a piece off craigslist. I've heard you can get barrels for free from car washes, as their soap comes in them.

Oh, treasures these days with those little cuties! They fly by--you just don't see it coming! Life is always so busy time just creeps up on you...so take it all in. It's nice you can record it digitally; I wish I'd had that when my daughter was little (she'll be 21 in July)--wow, that seems impossible!

You are one busy gal; sewing, gardening, 2 girls, and that rainbarrel is superb! I still don't have one, but do know exactly where I'd like to put one if we do.
